Re: Apple Mac V Everything else.
The Timex Sinclair 1000 (I think it's the same as the ZX80/81, but in an
already-built form) was quite interesting. It was even more rewarding if you
built it yourself, and it actually worked!!!
I'm surprised I don't see the Trash-80 Cocoa computer in the list. I once
got into a fist fight back in junior high with a kid who owned one of those
machines. Heck, I had to defend the Apple II's honor, y'know????
At least in Hawaii, the Amiga users' group were a bunch of elitists.
Everything was totally junk to them, as they tapped away on their Amiga
boxes.
I'd have to say that the Apple II made me!!!! It developed the very
foundation I live on today, even though I really didn't want to do computers
for a living in the first place. I learned 6502 assembly language with it,
which eventually lead me towards systems programming with Intel processors a
few years later. I learned a great deal about digital electronics on the
Apple II via the various experimental kits that were published in Call
A.P.P.L.E. and Computers/Electronics. I ran my first and only BBS on an
Apple II, which later lead me into chat systems, and at last the Internet.
The local Apple users group members were very wonderful people, and not
arogant like the other platforms' user groups. And, the Apple IIe, I believe
was the longest selling 8-bit machine in computer history. That says quite a
bit about the Apple II platform.
