What kind of files are they (AppleWorks, AppleWriter, plain text, something
else)? I.E., what Apple II program was used to create the files? That
information is needed for us to help you in a meaningful way. 

There are a lot of great Apple II users in the U.K. I can help put you in
touch, but more info about the files would be helpful.

Hmmm... cemetary headstones in danger of acid rain, or Apple II computers....
which lasts longer?
