No, the dot key was working just fine.  It's the least annoying working
character I could use to substitute for the space bar.

I ended up switching keyboards, and I stuck the sticky keyboard in the
refrigerator overnight (I did mentione that it seemed to be a
humidity-related problem, didn't I?).  The icebox treatment seemed to help
the one keyboard at least temporarily, but I should probably treat the
switches with some contact cleaner/lubricant...

The nice thing about using so-called obsolete computers is the ability to
have a collection of three or four of them to use for spare parts!  8-)
