This is not entirely true.  A more powerful text based browser is links
(http://links.browser.org).  Beyond the capabilities of lynx, links
supports tables, frames, background downloads, and more.  Somebody is
trying to add javascript, resumable downloads, scripting, and maybe CSS
(the elinks project).  How well it displays on an Apple II is an open
question, but I found that lynx's VT100 support broke several terminal
emulators anyways.
