There is a _rare_ exception where these Mac-to-VGA adapters can
be used on the IIgs. That is if the monitor supports lower horizontal scan
frequencies in addition to standard VGA frequencies. A handful of older
VGA monitors could drop down to 15.75 kHz (NTSC scan rate) but they
were unusual a decade ago and don't at all exist today--at least to the
best of my knowledge.
I have a 14" NEC MultiSync 3D which works on my Windows PC
*and* the IIgs using nothing more than a Mac adapter. Several other
brands exist that support 15-30+ kHz, including some made by Sony.
I still prefer the AppleColor RGB for a few reasons though...
