Okay, thanks!  I kind of figured not.
It just seemed like they went to a fair
bit of trouble to keep the address and
data pins in the same place, that maybe
there was still cause for hope. :)

I may investigate the possibility of an "adapter socket"
yet, with possibly a few gates for clock, etc.,
as AFAIK the 65802 is no longer produced, whereas
the 65816 is still being made by WDC.

Does anybody know where one might find a
schematic of the IIe?
