Not surprising--many PC "techs" these days have never seen a DIP
DRAM.
Look for them in the "trash" bin on old 286 motherboards or on ISA
memory cards. There were 4MB cards made with 256Kb x 1 chips--
144 of them! 1MB - 2MB cards were very common, and usually go
for a buck or so.
With luck, the fact that they don't know what you're talking about will
translate to a low price for the card. ;-)
