Amiga Scan Doubler + IIGS?

Recently I've been itching to get my IIGS to work with a VGA monitor.  I've
been doing a lot of searching for different options and stumbled upon a
number of posts on this subject already in Google's archive of Usenet,
mainly about trying to get an Amiga Scan Doubler to work with a IIGS.  It
seems like a number of people have said "It is theoretically possible," but
nobody has actually successfully done it.  How surprising!

It's actually kind of surprising (well it was at least to me) that the Amiga
community is way ahead of the IIGS community in this field!

Reasons for it not working:

- Amigas use composite sync, IIGS uses separate horizontal and vertical.

- Level of sync may be different (?)

- Amiga scan doublers require +5V input, which is not present on the IIGS
monitor port

Reasons for it to work:

- Amiga monitors can be wired to work with IIGS's

- Both Amigas and IIGSs use a horizontal scan frequency of around 15.6 kHz.

It seems like there are not a lot of companies even selling Amiga scan
doublers these days.  One that I find is SoftHut selling the "ToastScan".
There don't seem to be many others these days.

What is the general concensus here?  Has anyone done it?
