First you must troubleshoot the situation a little further.  Why is
your Amiga unable to write to its serial device?  Does the drivers
for the serial device require some modem signals (i.e. CTS and/or
DSR) which it doesn't receive?  That's a quite common cause of
being unable to write to a serial device.
