I have been given a "Macintosh 11si". I have used a Mac before but
infrequently and a long time ago. I would now very much like to get into it
again - as a change from my PC - and would welcome help from any quarter. I
list, below, all details I have found on the machine which I think may be
relevant:-
Under "About this Macintosh":-
Macintosh 11si
System Software B1-7.0.1
Under "Control Panels":-
Silverlining d2 2.2.1
Bus 0: Internal SCSI bus
Disk 0: Quantum Lightning 540S
Stephens Machine: 253MB in vol; 264MB available
Unknown 6: Driver with no device
CPU 7: Macintosh 11si
When I click on the item "CPU 7" above, I get a screen as follows:-
Machine Name: Macintosh 11si
Processor chip: 68030
ROM version: 67c
System version: 7.0.1
Volume size supported: 2GB
ROM size: 512KB
Low memory size: 8KB
Logical RAM size: 34,816KB
Physical RAM size: 17,408KB
I know that "Stephens Machine" is the previous owners disk and I assume that
I can change this to my own name.
There are various programs already on the machine which are, of course,
quite helpful to start off with.
When the computer starts up, I get a message reading "Quicktime VR
installation failed because it requires MacOS 7.1 or newer".
Can I upgrade the operating system to "7.1 or newer" and, if so, which
version do you suggest and from where would I get it?
I would like to be able to obtain a manual for the computer and, I believe,
there was a disk and/or book that would have come with the computer in the
first place, which was a kind of 'tutorial'. This would also be helpful. I
am trying extremely hard to think back to when I used a Mac (4 or 5 years
ago) and remember various bits and pieces, but I was never too "competent"
with the system as such, I just "used" the computer!
Look forward to hearing/receiving any helpful information you may have.
Many thanks
David Lloyd (from England, United Kingdom)
