Proterm is actually very user friendly, you'll find it great.  You will have to
have a SSC set to modem and an external modem, 14400 baud works, I have two
extra SupraFaxModems, but no cables.  But proterm will set things up if you
have a modem and a card.   With //gs you just need a modem the cable may have
to be different.  Hardware handshaking cable will make the modem work faster.
