This is the first time I've heard any such suggestion.
Apple dealers had to keep a working Apple /// system on hand for several
years just so they could provide support for doing low level formats on
ProFILEs. I don't know whether a Lisa would have been any more
convenient - they both weigh a ton and are about as bulky when you
include the monitor.

The hardware requirements for the ProFILE would be exactly the same -
you would still need the special Z8 processor and firmware, since the
standard ProFILE firmware doesn't contain any code which supports doing
a low level format.
The Lisa would need support software (possibly a specific version to
match the ProFILE capacity), but no extra hardware (the ProFILE would
presumably plug directly into its parallel port).
