The presence or absence of the memory card in the aux slot will not
affect
the function of the SSC in slot 3.  What will happen is the Apple IIe
will
detect a card with a firmware ROM in slot three and disable the built-in
80-column firmware.  For this reason, it is best not to have any card
with
$Cx00 firmware in slot 3; you can CPU cards in slot 3.
