Re: Memory Card question

I seem to recall seeing 250 nanosecond RAM in an Apple II once....

The original IBM PC had 200 nanosecond RAM, though there was one wait state, still as is well known, it's CPU ran at 4.77 mhz.

My point was that the Apple II card might be able to work with even
slower RAM. The IIgs card needs 150 ns or faster (some cards need 120
ns), but the Apple II card might work with (say) 180 ns. I don't have a
manual for the Apple II card, so I can't check this detail.

Looking through the manuals for the Apple II and IIgs cards and the IIgs
hardware reference and IIe Technical reference, I can't find any reference
to the speed of the RAM chips for the two cards. Just repeated references
to buying 256k kits from Apple. Well, I guess you could stretch it and
say there was one sort of reference, the box the Apple II memory card came
in has a picture that shows 200ns RAM installed.

That settles it - the implication is that the Apple II memory card will
work with slower RAM. 200 ns seems like a reasonable lower bound, but
it might work with even slower RAM.

Don't forget that this card is operating at 1 MHz, while IIgs memory
expansion cards have to be able to operate at 2.8 MHz.
