Bruce, may I suggest a course in "reading for comprehension"? ;) 

Re-read the OP's last sentence that you quoted. A Focus drive won't 
allow him to use his "half a dozen or so old external Mac drives" no 
matter how low cost or well supported they are. The title of the article 
should be a clue that he has SCSI drives.
