The disk images for a Mac have the .img extension. Although it is not needed or used because Mac programs have a creator and Type to link a file to its mother program.

To make things go faster, there is a program for the Mac called Setinfo, that will assign a Creator and Type to all your disk images all at once. But they will have to be copied from you cd to your hard drive first.

Then you will be able to double click on them to open them. Also, Stuffit does not open these files. It is opened with disk copy 6.3.3 which is compatible with v4.2 and also works on all Mac OSes including back to Mac OS 7.
