Hi,
 Cleaning should be done with a head cleaning disk. As it can clean both sides. Now taking it out you have to slide it out. But I would take the top cover off and see how bad the dust is. A Q-tip in the front and a blast of compressed air will get most loose stuff out.
 It would easier just to bring both drives over here and we can run a head cleaning disk on them. I can also give you another 3.5 drive as back up. Located in Clinton Township, Michigan.
