I know the apple IIc handshaking is borked and is internally looped back to itself in the cable. but what about other models of II / III?
Hardware handshaking should work on other machines. The way a cable (or null modem adapter) is wired up will enable or defeat that handshaking.
Reason I ask is my AVR is not performing handshakes, and I am making schematics. Will I need to include a hardware handshake loop path like in the IIc cable for all models? or is hardware handshaking ignored all together?
The state of hardware handshaking is cleverly disguised at the host end in the Serial Configuration dialog as the "Apple IIc w/Imagewriter Cable" checkbox. Checked = hardware handshaking is requested of the serial hardware; unchecked = not. The default is unchecked.
