Help with Google Groups subscriptions

I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same problem I am with Google Groups.  It seems that even though I am subscribed to receive all messages via e-mail for several groups I do not receive them.  I've setup multiple accounts as suggested by Google Groups help documents but this does not work either.

One thing I've noticed is that I do receive e-mail updates for true Google Groups (and not USENET groups). According to Google Groups documentation this shouldn't matter and I should still be able to receive all updates via e-mail.  I am missing something, or did something change whereby we cannot receive messages via e-mail that are posted to the group?

I know this may not be the best place to ask, but this is one of the only usenet groups I still want to receive messages from but cannot.  If anyone has any ideas, or understands why this does not work I am all ears!
