To support what others have already said, I have taken, most recently in January 2010, tens of Apple II and Mac 3.5" and 5.25" disks and some hardware from France to the United States, all of which were presumably X-rayed at least three or more times, and which happily survived the experience.
I took a IIc+ to KFest in July in my laptop bag, and wound up getting into a fairly nice conversation with one of the security guys about his memories of having one (a //c, I think) back in the day. All this while I was being detained because my little iPad stand looked to them like a stapler or a knife or something and needed to be extracted for open-air examination.
In my luggage there was a disassembled //e without its case (motherboard, keyboard, power supply, disk drive, controller card and RAM card) -- it clearly did get inspected on my way out of Kansas City (not in my presence, and stuff was a bit jumbled around), but it all appeared to have survived. Come to think of it, I haven't connected it up since, but it looked ok.
