I want to do another Apple II book, but I don't want it to be so huge like
the last one. Also I want it to be more fun. Since I'm just about done with
all my current Apple II projects (ebook should be coming later this month!),
let's talk about the next one.
I envision the Apple II Anthology being like the Beatles Anthology: a large
color book with photos and stories about the Apple II.
Since I would like to have this be a collaborative effort, I am posting this
thread now instead of being secretive about the project (which, admittedly,
is a good key to success, but in this case...).
Here are some ideas that I have for content of this book:
- First off, total page length would be less than 200. Maybe closer to 100.
The book would be fairly large to allow for nice color photos. However, as a
color book, it will be more expensive to produce, and would therefore cost
more to the consumer.
- There would be photos of all the usual Apple hardware and peripherals
- Photos of Apple II prototypes and really unusual things
- Stories and memories of the Apple II days
- Interviews with well-known Apple II people. Or interviews with just about
anyone who used an Apple II back then.
- Coverage of popular programs and games, with screenshots and so on
- Little known facts, trivia, and Apple folklore
While the breadth of my own Apple II collection is respectable, I would need
help with the photos of prototypes and other interesting things. Also, I
can't make up all these stories. So this project would definitely have to be
a collaborative effort, where everyone gets his fair share of credit for
lending photos, stories, and other materials.
It would also be fun to make a DVD that goes with the book, or to have a
disk with the programs mentioned in the book.
