The 5.25" mechanisms are standard PC drives. The cabling is completely custom. Be CAREFUL if you build your own! Back when I was doing development for Applied Engineering, I smoked two PCTs in a row due to a factory-miswired floppy cable :-).

I think you can also connect a 720k 3.5" diskette drive, but this will only read and write MFM format. Won't interchange with the host drive.
