Re: Nice article from Scott Schram

I was poking around a bit in Genetic Drift (Scott's first game), seeing how the secret key worked. I noticed other keychar checks, so went looking for the instructions to see which keys were 'official'. I found that Scott has them posted on his website:

http://schram.net/articles/games/genetic_drift_instructions.html

and noticed this info:

"A free Broderbund T-shirt will be awarded to the first person in each state who WRITES us with a description of what happens when you win. "

Not being aware of this, I was curious as to what actually happened. However, trying to play the game start to finish to see the win seemed like a long way to go (and I'm just not that good a player). So instead, I opted to find a means to cheat, of course. :)

I found a way to disable the enemies firing, so getting them all converted into TVs was made much simpler, allowing me to zip through the complete game. I suppose I could have gone hunting for code that would have allowed me to condition the game to jump to the end, but the no-fire approach worked and was convenient.

Anyway, I now know what happens when you win!

I wonder if anyone actually submitted a description to Broderbund back then?
