Also, more to the point the reason why the NTSC signal has a 4:3 aspect ratio is because it inherits it from the original 35mm film specs used since the invention of motion picture. Why did Dickson and Edison pick those dimensions? Not sure. Can't ask them because they're pretty dead now. :-D
