Because that only lists the files (disk image names) in the archive - NOT the contents of those disk images.
So, it's no good for the 100's of disk images where the contents are not part of the file name. e.g. what other files, games are on these disk images: exterminator+.dsk.gz, falcons+.dsk.gz, etc ?
Back in the old days, an extra site index was maintained on Asimov (IIRC) that included the contents of all DOS 3.3 disk images. e.g. "index.of.dos3.3.disks.txt". This was really handy for looking at what files were included in disk images. The last DOS 3.3 index file I have here with me is from 1995. Not sure when they stopped being updated / created.
Sample contents of this "index.of.dos3.3.disks.txt" file:

I don't recall what software generated this listing - there's no "created with....", etc included in the text file.
It would be good to generate an up-to-date catalog of all disk images - ProDos, DOS 3.3, etc.
If it would help, and if I had a suitable indexer tool, then I would be prepared to re-create such an index once a month against my Asimov mirror and upload it to Asimov.
I just checked out MacGUI City (http://macgui.com/downloads/?mode=search), and this ia an excellent tool, but I'm not sure how up-to-date its index is. e.g. I searched on "Thunder" trying to find the "ThunderBombs" game that we have been discussing in another thread here, and it wasn't found.
