Bidding got carried away.  I had some cards a few years ago that went
for 100 times what I figured they would go for.


Rare is it that something like that is a good investment over its
original retail price.  Woah.
People really can get carried away, I've seen it in other things so I'm not surprised that it happens in auctions. They get lost in the bidding, forgetting that there should be a limit on what they will pay, forgetting that for many items, there will be other chances. Of course, it actually requires two people to be in that frame of mind, or else the bidding would stop much earlier.
