You could try removing the jumper on the Carte Blanche card (top of the IDE connector) just for the heck of it. Make sure the power is off when removing it or installing it to be safe. Removing the jumper takes away the CB card's functions except the VGA output. It might be interesting to see if that makes a difference with the Z80 Softcard.
