Re: Datalink 2400 internal modem card
Phil,
Good News/Bad News:
Good:
I've got one of these ... and managed to find it (I've just moved house and
most everything is still in boxes) and have a look at it.
The on-board communications package is accessed (according to the manual)
from BASIC by:
1) if you want 80 column, do a PR#3
2) type "IN#s", where "s" is the slot number the card is in
3) type "<CTRL>A" followed by "T" to get into "terminal mode"
4) type "<CTRL>A" followed by "?" to get a "communications menu" that
lets you select various options
The card responds (again, according to the manual) to the standard AT
command set including some of the extended "&" commands.
Bad:
The adapter cable looks simple -- it terminates in a pair of RJ11 sockets
that are affixed to a PC board and encased in a plastic "shroud" for
mounting in a slot at the back of a ][+ or //e. However ... I can see that
the board has some surface-mount discretes on it but I can't identify them
or how they're connected. I tried to remove the board from the shroud to
get a better look, but it doesn't look like it will budge without breaking
something. :-( Unfortunately, all of my test gear is still packed so I
can't even do a quick continuity check (I'm guessing the SM devices are
probably just some sort of fuse) to see if the wiring is effectively
straight-through.
There are a lot of pages in the doc's (70 in the "DataLink User's Manual",
and 96 in the "Communications Software User's Manual") so It would take me
some time to scan them. [N.B., unlike many Apple ][ add-on cards there is
no circuit diagram that might give a clue to the layout of the adapter
cable. :-( ]
P.S.
I may try to scan the books and figure out the cable once I'm finally moved
in [and if I remember :-)]
