In 1981, the only head-disk assembly (what we now call a drive) with more
than 1GB of capacity was in the IBM 3380.  It contained two HDAs, each with
a 1.2GB capacity and it weighed over two tons!

I don't recall the platter size, but each HDA had eight platters. I'd guess
they were 16" to 18" in diameter.
