I know you're half-kidding, but honestly, some of the hostility/
snobbery to gaming displayed in this thread is really dismaying. :
( I know we all have different backgrounds, but surely we're mentally
agile enough to not just dismiss an entire category of computer usage,
an entire industry, out of hand - to not mindlessly condemn it as some
kind of worthless childish pursuit. Gaming is no less legitimate a
purpose of computers than programming or hardware hackery, and games
themselves can be far more than simple arcade-style diversions.
The knowledge and discipline required for deep technical mastery is
obviously to be respected, but not at the cost of trivializing
everything else.
