Erm...Are you trying to boot the DOS 3.3 disk, or are you trying to read
the DOS 3.3 disk? If it's failing trying to read the DOS 3.3 disk,
perhaps it isn't really a DOS 3.3 disk, but rather something else that
looks like DOS 3.3 (such as a protected application) that lacks a
directory? In that case you might have to boot to the disk to get it to
come up...to do that, you might try the brute force method: from GS/OS,
run BASIC.SYSTEM, then from the Applesoft prompt give a PR#6. Or whatever
slot the controller is in.

If you're trying to just read the disk, and if it is a compliant DOS 3.3
disk, you might need the DOS 3.3 FST installed. Or, again, boot from the
disk.

: In constrast, my 3.5" disk drive has given me, no problems at all.

: Could it be, that the IIGS is running in Fast-mode (2Mhz) rather than
: Slow-mode? Hence, why it can't read the disks properly? How can I switch
: between the two?

: Any suggestions?

What could I possibly add that Empson didn't mention? 8-)
