Something strange is happening. Maybe somebody can shed light on this.
I have a Focus controller card (ROM V1.2) with a 170MB HD running in my IIGS
(ROM 03, 4MB RAM). It has GS/OS 6.0.1 installed. It has been running fine
for about 1 year now. I just purchased another Focus controller card (also
ROM V1.2) with a larger HD (300+).
The problem is as follows. If I run the IIGS without the 4MB RAM card, the
"new" (larger) disk will boot and behave properly. If I re-install the 4MB
RAM card it does not (I hear the HD seeking for track 0, but the IIGS stays
"stuck" on the initial power-on screen and does not go any further). I
tried moving the controller and disk from slot 7 to other slots but it
always exhibits the above problem. If I install it in (say) slot 1 and the
"old" (170MB) disk in slot 7, the 170MB disk will boot but it tells me that
it can't read the disk in slot 1. I have attempted to low-level format the
"new" disk with the Focus utility and still have the same exact problem. I
remove the 4MB RAM card it then runs fine...
BTW, the 4MB RAM card has no errors (tested with the several test programs,
including the Apple Service Diagnostic diskette V3.1).
Any clues?
