There is a major show stopper: Mac OS X no longer supports the use of
AFP over AppleTalk in its role as a server for file sharing.  It only
supports AFP over TCP/IP.

This means that old Macs which don't have a recent enough version of the
AppleShare client (and the IIgs) cannot connect to a machine running Mac
OS X.

Mac OS X 10.1 and later can be a client using AFP over AppleTalk, so you
can connect to Mac OS 8.6 or earlier acting as a server (or Mac OS 9.x
which doesn't have TCP/IP file sharing enabled).  This doesn't help in
the case of a IIgs, since it is a client-only implementation of AFP.

The situation may be different with Mac OS X Server, but the data sheet
for it only mentions AFP over TCP/IP in its list of server protocols.
