You might not, but others may like to retain access to the /RAM5 volume
(which requires the internal slot 5 SmartPort firmware).
I also found that there was some software (demos and games) which
wouldn't work properly via a SuperDrive card, but would work using the
built-in SmartPort firmware.
My solution was to leave my Apple 3.5 Drive connected to the bulit-in
SmartPort, along with /RAM5 (S5,D2), and install the SuperDrive card in
slot 6, with my SuperDrive connected to it.
