There is another way. Go to 
http://www.dataviz.com/products/conversionsplus/index.html and checkout 
the program Conversions Plus. It allows you to format Zip disks or 3.5 
disks with the Mac HFS file system. Make sure you have the HFS FST 
loaded on the IIgs and it will read and write the disk.
