The quality of Apple's hardware appears to be rather good, and it was
certainly excellent in the past. (Finding a broken Apple II or 680x0
Macintosh is difficult. Recent PowerMacs?) In the PC world the quality
is mixed: some companies produce great hardware, others do not. This is
an issue since computer users (IMHO) tend to confuse quality and
performance. This makes informed buying decisions in the PC world
extremely difficult.

I don't think this 'love [of] his computer' goes as far for the PC as it
does for Apple. We are using machines which were designed over fifteen
years ago! The same goes for Atari, Commodore, etc. users. How many
people use their old XT, or even the software from their old XT, then go
online to discuss it? Similarly for classic Macintosh computers: there is
an active base of users even though much faster machines exist.

The same goes for Macintosh. My G3 currently runs Linux exclusively.
Other choices exist.

Kegs is great. ;)
