It sounds like you have the original Apple IIGS memory expansion card made
by Apple. That card, I believe can be populated to 1 meg total. Your
configuration now should give you 512k which is about the minimum for
anything useful. Most folks in this group have cards that run to 8 megs
total (I have a 4 meg card and two 8 meg cards in other machines, they work
great)

For any serious work, 1 to 1.25 meg is the minimum for a lot of the later
applications.

Your main concern first is finding a ROM 01 upgrade for your machine.

I have no idea where to tell you to look.

Hopefully someone else in the group will have an answer.

If worse comes to worse, GSes are cheap (except for the idiots on eBay) and
still fairly plentiful. Just find another ROM 01 (or ROM 03) machine.
