Making hard copies of Disk Images (.dsk). . . will this work?

I seem to have some sort of a mental block understanding how I can get these
old programs working with my Apple IIgs (the FAQ is is kind of vauge) this
is how I think it should be done. . . let me know if I m missing something;

-I Got a ton of  A // disk images from here;
ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/images/games/

-Uncompress the file so it is roughly a 140kb .dsk file.

-Using my Mac, format a 1.44mb floppy (right tab taped closed) as a ProDos
800K disk.

-Copy the .dsk file to the floppy on the Mac.

Will the above procedue allow the program to boot off a IIgs and be usable?
I am considering the above method because I'd rather use 1.44mb floppies
than hunt down some older disks, and it seems easier than getting Apple Talk
to work with the IIgs (I am new to the AII, maybe a bit too advanced for
me).

Best Regards,
