A DeskJet 500 can be used on a IIe, but in a limited sort of way.
The ProDOS Operating System doesn't directly suppprt "printer drivers,"
instead, printing is left to the software that's being used. Off-hand, I
can think of only a few IIe programs which include support for the DJ, but
those few may be more than enough, as the short-list includes AppleWorks.
PublishIt, a Desktop Publishing program, also includes built-in supprt
for the DJ 500.
Using a DeskJet with a IIGS is an entirely different story, as GS/OS does
support "printer drivers" such as those included with Harmonie, a still-
available commercial software package. For more info on Harmonie, check
