I (used to) boot a Rom 1 GS from an Appleshare 3.0 server (MacSE).  I
never had a problem after setting it up, but boot from a SCSI HD now.  I
still have it login to the the server though during bootup.

IIRC, bootup is set to slot7 (slot7=appletalk) and I use the printer-port
for appletalk (slot1=yourcard).

I can assure you that a Rom 1 does indeed boot from server via appletalk.
