Yes, I used the old ][ ref manual -- worked very well for me! I also wrote
a
6502 Assembly Language Tutorial as a project in high school. As soon as I
get
my connection to the PC up, I can send it to you.

Very kind. It would be much appreciated.

If you need the source to ALE, why not just dump it from the disassembler to
a
text file, and then add comments to it? I know it is not pretty, but it
WOULD
give you a viable (if not easy) way to make a mod. ;-) I've done that with
some programs I wrote using the mini-assembler, and it works well.

Actually went that route in the past with Merlin's Sourceror. As you
mentioned, it wasn't pretty. Rather confusing as well; the labels that
Sourceror used, that is. Back in those days, it just didn't seem worth it.
Now I have access to a few different disassemblers and I might try them
out to see how it goes. However, the commented source is really what
I'm after. Looking over a commented listing would be an education in
itself; that's what I'm hoping for.

BTW, the Atlas/Gazeteer in the back of "What's Where" is over 100 pages in
length. Would take me a VERY long time to copy/scan, unless I cut up the
binding & used my sheet feeder, and then the dogeared pages might jam. Tell
me
what part you're interested in, and I'll see what I can do.

Hey, that's a great offer! I know it would be *alot* of work to scan that
whole puppy
in. Thing is I don't know what to ask you to scan in! :-) I guess I'd
like to know
what the Apple does when someone enters, '10 HOME', and how it becomes
a line of AppleSoft stored in memory. I'm sure that would make an excellent
insight into the inner workings of the ROM. Any pointers there?
Actually, I'm looking to buy a, 'What's Where in the Apple' again. I could
just spit
for having unloaded that stuff at a Thrift Store. Sheesh!
Anyway, thanks for your offer. If you think you might know how the Apple
does
what it does to accept a line from the keyboard and commit it to ram as a
line of
AppleSoft code, that would be helpful. Or, if you could perhaps scan a few
pages
in Gazeteer dealing with those types of routines, it would be very welcome.
Most of the books out there present rather vague insights - they're designed
for
systems heads, which, unfortunately doesn't come to me naturally without
some
guided instruction. I'd love to find a book which has a more practical
tutorial approach
to the inner workings of the ROM routines, etc. I took a class in Apple
Assembler
in the mid-80's. It was very informative, and I learned alot. Lost a lot
of it just
from not having worked with it for so long.
Many thanks for your ear,
Rob
