     For a 2GB drive, it may a good idea to set up a few moderate size (e.g. 250MB)
HFS partitions and a few 32MB ProDOS partitions and leave the rest of the space in a
single big (relatively high-risk) HFS partition.

     In general, you are unlikely to notice any significant speed improvement via
defragmenting a hard disk on a IIgs unless a partition is pretty well filled and has
gone through many file deletes and writes. (For one thing, IIgs files are not usually
especially huge.) 

     Your best bet for a decent level of defragmenting a partition is probably the
file move, wipe, and move back approach suggested by Yor Name.
