Well, you can open it up and take a look. The problem is probably in the
vicinity of the phone jacks. I think they go to some protection diodes and a
transformer. Maybe something will be visibly wrong. It sounds like the rest
of the modem is working, because you're getting that "NO DIALTONE" message.
That comes from the modem microprocessor.
On the otherhand, 14.4 modems are worth very little. I have a box of 'em in
the garage, stop by and I'll give you one. If I'm not home, my wife would be
happy to give you the whole box!
