The limit is 127 devices per bus in theory - the host controller
itself is Smartport ID zero. Interestingly the protocol also supports
character devices not just block, and on the IIc at least (not sure
about the others) supports interrupts as well.
Always wondered what they had in mind with that - the Smartport is way
faster than any serial communications protocol in common use at the
time, with the exception being RS422 as implemented in Localtalk.
Perhaps that was the motivator behind the inclusion.
