Maybe I should be posting this in csa2.programmer, but I wanna give my
underinformed speculation a go here anyway.
Palmtop computers are pretty wussy things, in terms of modern computers. I
mean, 2.8 MHz wouldn't be that out of line, and 7-14 MHz would be just
great. And here comes Microsoft with this new technology, Visual Studio
.NET, which makes use of a just-in-time compliation strategy, similar to
Java. There is talk of developing VS.NET JIT-compilers for a variety of
platforms, including palm-top devices. If that can be done, is there any
reason why the same thing could not be done for GS/OS?
I would *love* to be able to use Visual Basic (and Visual C++, to a lesser
extent) to develop for the IIgs. Something like that would cause an
absolute explosion of new IIgs software. And I want to see it.
Sadly, I have not the l33t sk1llz required to implement such a thing. But
for those more experienced than me, can it be done? Is it feasible to think
a .NET interpreter can work on GS/OS, if weenie palmtops can pull it off?
Please do not respond with pure Microsoft bashing. I'm talking about trying
to enhance the beloved IIgs, not trying to start a flamewar.
