Re: DuoDisk & IIGS
No. According to the manual for the 'super drive' Apple II 3.5 Disk
Controller Card Owner's Guide, page 2:
"The disk controller card works with these floppy drives:
* Apple Super Drive
* Apple 3.5 Drive
* Apple II UniDisk 3.5"
No 5.25" support is mentioned.
Again I must mention that hooking the Duodisk to the disk controller
built into the IIgs will work just fine. I have never modified my
Duodisk. Before I got a Unidisk, I used to swap it back and forth
between my IIe and my IIgs. Just make sure to daisy chain it after the
3.5s, where 5.25" drives belong/ need to be to work on the IIgs.
So on your IIgs, place the DuoDisk, or any other 5.25 drives, on the
drive port of the IIgs and make sure the control panel for slot6 says
'Disk Port' and you may use the Duodisk on your IIgs without an
additional card.
If you want to use a card, get a 5.25" drive card with the 19 pin
connector instead of the older one for DISK II drives. They tend to be
very common, if you need one, post a message saying so. Likewise if you
don't need the super controller, send it to me, I'll be very happy to
trade a fully tested and working duodisk (with or without mods), cable,
and controller card for it.
Thankx,
Ed
