I don't remember much in the way of such simple devices from the Circuit
Cellar. Steve tended to do very complex projects such as his "Micro Mouth"
speech synthesizer that was an actual slot card for the Apple II. Steve had
a deal with a company to supply parts kits such as the printed circuit board
and any hard-to-find parts and he listed them in his article.

I built a Micro Mouth and I used it for several years as an integral part of
an inventory program I wrote. My Apple would read me the recorded inventory
and I would check it off against my actual count. It saved me a lot of time
in maintaining my database.

Steve was not a "software guy" and most everything he did was in hardware,
even when it might have been easier to do it in software. Fascinating
articles.
