II GS monitor question

Hi
I have just bought an LC III.  I only got the keyboard and unit though.  I
have a fully functioning IIGS and i tried to use my monitor from it on the
LC and it just stayed blank.  THe computer makes the apple sound when turned
on and then you here it booting off the HDD.  Is the video prot broken, or
does the monitor not go oon a LC III, or do i have to change the
resolution(hard when i can't see what i'm doing)
