Apples are user friendly.  Consider this.
 
There is a service organization in town that has started a resource center that was given 2 computers. The staff is thinking that clients will use the computers to write resumes and learn job skills. However, the bulk of the clients are not computer literate and many don't speak English.
 
A couple of older PCs are there now.  One has portions of "Office"  which a friend of mine will be teaching.  She was angsting about teaching the  basics first. 
 
I suggested I could loan or give the IIGSes I am storing to the center.  I have the tour disk that came with the computer.  It does an excellent job of introducing the computer to the new user, parts, use of menus and how to use the mouse. It's one 3.5" disk which requires no manual to use.  No hard drive to worry about. A person can make a lot of mistakes, turn the machine off and turn it back on to start again.  
 
The second program I suggest offering is a typing program. There are a bunch out there. Most teach touch typing for several levels of ability.  You go at your own pace.
 
With two simple programs that require very little instruction a person can develop some useful skills that can be transferred to other computers.  
 
There is software still available.  If you need some source that furnish disks I can send you a list.
