My brother just came to us and said he must buy a new mac notebook computer
becasue his old one (three years?) has mother board cracks and no one at any
repair place will touch it.  The will not retract the connections or pull chips
out of a mac motherboard.  Hence he must buy a new one.

So he comes in with a proposal for a $3,700 notebook that is very similar to
the one our president got as a refurbished Compaq for about $1,000.  

Even my brother is seeing the need to switch over to wintel, except he is so
used to the software and feels like he is sort of chained to it.
